The drone that struck the British airbase in Akrotiri, Cyprus, on the night of March 2 was equipped with Russian military technology.
“It had a Russian-made Kometa-B navigation system on board, a device first detected on drones intercepted by Ukrainian air defense forces in December,” according to an article published on Saturday, March 7, on the website of the British daily The Times, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
British military intelligence sent the discovered components to a laboratory in the country for further study, the publication said. It is believed that the attack was carried out by militants from the Lebanese radical group Hezbollah, which supports Iran.
As noted, the discovery is the first evidence of Russian military equipment being used in the US and Israeli war against Iran and raises concerns about Moscow’s growing influence in this military conflict.
It follows reports that Russia is providing Iran with intelligence to help it attack US forces in the region, including the locations of US military ships and aircraft, the British newspaper writes.
