Management change at Energoatom: Kotin resigns, director of Rivne NPP takes over

The Supervisory Board of NNEGC Energoatom JSC has granted the application of the company’s acting Chairman of the Board Petro Kotin to terminate his powers.
In a press release, the supervisory board thanked him for his decades of work at the company and for his contribution to the safe and efficient operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Who took over the company
To ensure the continuous management of Energoatom, Pavlo Kovtoniuk, CEO of the Rivne NPP, has been appointed as the chairman of the board.
The company notes that Mr. Kovtoniuk has the necessary experience and professional qualities to ensure the stable operation of the enterprise and preparation for the critical autumn-winter period.
New positions
The Supervisory Board also proposed to create three new key positions in the company’s management board:
- chief Operating Officer (COO)
- vice President for Governance and Ethics,
- vice President for Finance and Strategy.
Competition for executive positions
The company will soon announce a competitive selection process for the permanent chairman of the board, as well as for other management positions. At the same time, the company emphasized that the process of reforming the board is aimed at increasing transparency and implementing international corporate practices.
“The Supervisory Board will continue to work on strengthening Energoatom’s leadership position, improving operational efficiency and ensuring the safe operation of the company,” the statement said.
Who is Petro Kotin?
Petro Kotin is a Ukrainian power engineer, Doctor of Technical Sciences. In 2020, he was appointed acting president of Energoatom, and later acting chairman of the company’s board. Prior to that, he served as Director of Zaporizhzhya NPP.
Key decisions during a full-scale war:
- Protection of ZNPP during the occupation. Coordinated the actions of the staff and interaction with international organizations after the Russians seized Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
- Cooperation with the IAEA. He was the main representative of Ukraine in the dialogue with the agency, contributed to the constant monitoring of the situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
- Withdrawal of Energoatom from Russian control. He stated that the company does not recognize any illegal orders of the occupiers and continues to work exclusively in the Ukrainian legal field.
- Development of international partnerships. Initiated contracts with Westinghouse for the supply of nuclear fuel and construction of new power units to reduce dependence on Russian technology.
- Preparing for the winter season. Ensured stable operation of power units against the backdrop of massive Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy system.
Kotin headed Energoatom during the most critical period for the Ukrainian nuclear power industry and was the company’s public voice in countering the Russian nuclear threat.
Pavlo Kovtoniuk is a Ukrainian power engineer and Director General of the Rivne NPP.
He has been working in the nuclear power industry for more than 25 years, having worked his way up from an engineer to a plant manager.
He has experience working in crisis conditions and international projects in the field of nuclear safety.
