New head appointed at the National Memory Institute: what is known about Alfyorov

Historian and officer Oleksandr Alfiorov has been appointed the new head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. The decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
It is noted that Oleksandr Alferov is a Ukrainian historian, TV and radio host, public and military figure.
As a reminder, in December 2024, philosopher and military officer Anton Drobovych completed his five-year term as head of the UINP.
What is known about Alferov
Oleksandr Alfiorov was born in Kyiv on November 30, 1983.
In 2005, he graduated from the Institute of Historical Education of the Drahomanov National Pedagogical University with a master’s degree in history and a teacher of law. In 2012, he defended his PhD thesis in Ukrainian History.
Since 2008, he has hosted his own programs on the Culture radio station, including Historical Frescoes. He also worked as a presenter on the TV channel “UA: Culture TV channel. He has his own YouTube channel with over 490 thousand subscribers as of June
Since 2010, he has been a researcher at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences. He is the author, co-author, and compiler of 15 books and more than 100 scientific articles.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Alfiorov became an officer of the Azov-Kyiv Special Forces. Since September 2022, he has been an officer of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, head of the humanitarian training and information support group of the personnel psychological support department. He has the rank of reserve major. He was also the head of the expert group on de-Russification in Kyiv.
