The Cabinet of Ministers has a draft resolution on an audit of NABU, according to media reports

In mid-March, the Cabinet of Ministers planned to initiate an independent audit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, but the draft resolution has not yet been considered, reports UP, citing its own sources, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

It is noted that UP learned from sources within NABU that in mid-March, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Taras Kachka initiated a draft resolution on forming a commission to conduct an independent audit of the Bureau.

“This is important because a negative audit conclusion is grounds for dismissing the NABU director,” the publication adds.

According to UP’s sources, NABU is unpleasantly surprised by the CMU’s intention.

“There was an audit last year. The experts provided us with recommendations on how to improve our work—we began implementing them. The draft resolution that Kachka wanted to introduce came as a big surprise to us. In the end, nothing came of it—the government never considered this document, but it’s unclear what will happen next,” one of UP’s sources at the Bureau admits, according to the publication.

The latest NABU audit

An international audit of NABU did indeed take place last year, but it covered only 9 months of the Bureau’s work (from March 2023 to November 2024) out of the agency’s more than 10 years of activity.

The overall assessment of the Bureau’s work was 1.4 points.

Among other things, the audit identified a number of systemic issues “that need to be addressed.” These primarily include:

  • the lack of a comprehensive development strategy,
  • insufficient protection for whistleblowers,
  • risks of information leaks,
  • unregulated internal procedures, and inconsistencies in the Bureau’s organizational structure.

The auditors provided NABU with 26 key recommendations, which can be viewed in the report on the CMU website via the link.
