The US Congress approved the draft defense budget: what kind of assistance does it provide for Ukraine

In the United States, the House of Representatives, the lower house of Congress, has approved the National Defense Authorization Act of 2026 (NDAA). The approved defense budget includes money to help Ukraine.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to The Guardian.
It is noted that the total US defense budget in 2026 will be $900 billion. Of these, $800 million is to be allocated to help Ukraine, despite the position of the administration of President Donald Trump.
The law also places an increased emphasis on European defense. The White House is prohibited from reducing the number of troops in Europe below 76,000 for more than 45 days. It is also prohibited to export or transfer key military equipment.
In addition, $400 million is allocated for the needs of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), and the program itself is extended until 2029. Another $400 million is allocated for other needs of Ukraine.
It is worth noting that Congress has yet to separately approve funding for the Pentagon in the FY2026 spending bill. Unlike the calendar year, the US fiscal year begins and ends in September.
The document is aimed at maintaining stability in key regions and strengthening Washington’s position among its allies.
A little earlier, US lawmakers released the final version of the defense bill for fiscal year 2026, setting a record level of financial spending on the national security sector and support for Ukraine, with the total military budget amounting to $901 billion, which exceeds the May request of the Donald Trump administration by about $8 billion.
