An explosion rocked the US Embassy building in Oslo: what is known

8 March 09:15

On the night of March 8, an explosion occurred near the US Embassy in Oslo, the capital of Norway.

According to "Komersant Ukrainian", the incident was reported by the Norwegian police, as reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Bloomberg.

According to the report, the explosion occurred at around 1 a.m. local time. The epicenter of the incident was in the area where the US diplomatic mission is located, a facility that is already protected by enhanced security protocols.

Witnesses reported a loud noise, after which dozens of police crews, firefighters, and ambulances arrived at the scene within minutes.

There were no reports of injuries or fatalities.

A large area around the embassy has been temporarily closed to pedestrians and traffic.

Explosives experts and forensic investigators are conducting a detailed examination of the scene, collecting evidence and checking the area for other dangerous objects.

Norwegian law enforcement agencies are being very cautious in their statements so far.

The Oslo police confirmed the explosion but declined to specify:

  • The nature of the explosion: whether it was a homemade device, a technical malfunction, or something else.
  • Intentionality: whether the incident was a targeted attack on the US embassy.
  • Suspects: whether there are any detainees or individuals whose presence near the diplomatic mission at the time of the explosion was recorded by surveillance cameras.

It should be noted that this incident occurred during a period of heightened global tension, when US diplomatic missions around the world have been placed on special alert.

Oslo police are continuing to interview witnesses and examine CCTV footage to determine whether the explosion was a planned attack.
