Apples are getting cheaper in Ukraine: prices fell by 12% in a week

Ukrainian gardeners are forced to reduce selling prices for apples. The reason is low demand among consumers and an increase in the supply of autumn varieties.
This is reported by the analytical portal EastFruit, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to experts, quality apples are currently offered on the wholesale market at 30-40 UAH/kg ($0.72-0.97/kg). This is about 12% cheaper than at the end of last week.
Autumn apple varieties account for the major share of the market. They are characterized by good taste, but are not suitable for long-term storage. As a result, gardeners are trying to sell their crops as soon as possible to avoid losses and are willing to cut prices.
Despite the reduction in price, the cost of apples is still high. Prices are now more than twice as high as they were in the same period last year. The main reason for this is a reduction in the gross harvest of apples in Ukraine, industry analysts explain.
By comparison, the situation on the market for other berries and vegetables is the opposite.
For example, selling prices for blueberries have been rising for the third week in a row due to a decrease in supply and strong demand. In the vegetable market, the price of greenhouse cucumbers was reported to have fallen earlier.
