The heating season has started across Ukraine. As of November 11, 73% of the housing stock was connected to heat. At the same time, the situation in the energy system remains difficult after a series of massive Russian attacks.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Kostyantyn Kovalchuk during a press conference, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Suspilne.
“Today we can state that more than 87% of social facilities are heated – 21.3 thousand facilities throughout Ukraine. Since the end of October, housing facilities have also started to be connected: as of this morning, more than 53 thousand apartment buildings are connected, that is, 73% of the housing sector of Ukraine is already heated,” he said.
According to him, 15,037 boiler houses are in operation, which is 85% of the total number, and all frontline communities are connected to heating.
Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk said that the situation in the energy system remains difficult. He noted that since the beginning of the month, eight complex attacks with the use of the latest weapons, including cluster munitions, have been recorded.
In total, the Russian army has launched seven attacks on the oil and gas sector since October. Emergency repair crews are working on restoration, but this process is complicated until the military and the State Emergency Service complete stabilization work. Mr. Kolisnyk added that the queues of outages are a result of the shelling, and schedules for both industrial and household consumers are applied. He emphasized that only air defense can protect the system.
Ukrenergo CEO Vitaliy Zaichenko confirmed that the situation is difficult but under control. He noted that, unlike on Saturday, the company no longer uses emergency shutdowns.
The company continues to restore the facilities most affected by missile strikes and drone attacks. Zaichenko emphasized that the protection has proved to be highly effective, which has helped to save expensive equipment.
On November 11, Russian troops attacked the energy infrastructure of Kharkiv, Odesa and Donetsk regions. Also, hourly power outages are in effect throughout the day in most regions of Ukraine.
