Carrot prices are rising in Ukraine: what are the reasons?

10 April 13:10

This week, prices for high-quality carrots in Ukraine began to rise, according to analysts from the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to market participants, the price increase in this segment is driven by relatively high demand for high-quality root vegetables amid limited supply. Wholesale companies and retail chains are actively purchasing these products, while vegetable stocks in farm storage facilities are rapidly dwindling.

It is precisely this surge in demand for these products that has allowed local farmers to raise prices on available stocks of vegetables of the appropriate quality. Thus, carrots are currently being offered for sale at 6–13 UAH/kg ($0.14–0.30/kg), which is on average 20% more expensive than at the end of last week.

Project experts attribute this positive price trend to the seasonal depletion of high-quality produce stocks on farms. According to market participants, wholesale companies are increasingly facing difficulties in procuring the necessary volumes of high-quality carrots.

It is worth noting that as of today, these root vegetables in Ukraine are still being sold at an average of 69% cheaper than during the same period last year.
