Cucumbers are getting more expensive in Ukraine: prices have gone up again

4 October 11:17

Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine continue to grow.

This is reported by analysts of the EastFruit project, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to market participants, there were several reasons for the current situation. Firstly, the supply of cucumbers on the market has slightly decreased due to unstable harvests in both stationary plants and film greenhouses. At the same time, the demand for cucumbers remained at a fairly high level.

Today, Ukrainian greenhouse companies offer cucumbers for sale at 35-55 UAH/kg ($0.85-1.33/kg), which is on average 14% higher than at the end of the previous business week.

Market participants explain the price increase in this segment by the rather limited supply of greenhouse cucumbers in the face of high demand. Samples in factories decreased significantly after the weather conditions deteriorated. Prices are also supported by the lack of competition from imported products.

It is worth adding that today greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are still offered for sale on average 23% cheaper than in the same period last year. At the same time, market operators note that another increase in prices for local cucumbers could lead to a sharp increase in the supply of imported products.
