The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has registered draft law No. 11183, which requires retailers to label goods whose manufacturers pay taxes in the aggressor state, Komersant ukrainskyi https://www.komersant.info/ reports.

The draft law, registered on 17 April, aims to oblige anyone who sells or advertises goods whose manufacturers have not left the Russian market to inform consumers about this.

In particular, in retail chains, this refers to a special mark on the price tag “The manufacturer pays taxes to the budget of the aggressor state”, which occupies at least 30% of the total volume of the inscription, is made in red and is generally visually noticeable.

Any advertising of such goods must also contain a corresponding warning.

“Informing consumers about business entities that, in the third year of Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine, are still conducting their business activities and paying taxes to the aggressor state, will allow Ukrainian citizens to make a conscious choice whether to continue purchasing goods from such entities, thereby indirectly contributing to the financing of armed aggression against Ukraine,”

– reads the explanatory note to the document.

After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, some global brands such as PepsiCo, Mars, Nestle, Leroy Merlin, Auchan or Metro remained on the Russian market. Previously, their list was available on the website of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, but a month ago it became known that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was closing the list of “International Sponsors of War“. Now, such companies must be searched for in the State Register of Sanctions, which is much less convenient for citizens. The list can also be found on the websites of non-governmental initiatives, for example, here.
