on April 28, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported that former President Viktor Yanukovych was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison for inciting desertion and organizing the illegal transportation of people across the border.

Prosecutors proved that on February 23, 2014, Yanukovych, acting jointly with the former head of the Security Service of Ukraine and representatives of the Russian Federation, illegally crossed the state border of Ukraine, having organized the departure of at least 20 people from his inner circle and employees of the State Protection Department (UDO). They all traveled to Russia, landing at the military airfield in Yeysk. They then traveled to Anapa, and then, using a military transport plane, arrived at the Gvardeyskoye airfield in Crimea.

In Sevastopol, Yanukovych incited the parole officers guarding him to desert. As a result, some of the state security officers who did not return to Ukraine to serve went with him to Russia on a ship.
