New rules for paying sick leave have come into effect in Ukraine

Starting April 4, insured Ukrainians will have the right to receive temporary disability and maternity benefits not only at their main place of work but also at their part-time jobs.
This was announced by the Pension Fund of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The relevant amendments adopted by the Law of Ukraine of December 18, 2024 No. 4158-IX “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Compulsory State Social Insurance” come into force on April 4, 2025.


Thus, the Law amended the second paragraph of the first part of Article 22 of the Law of Ukraine “On Compulsory State Social Insurance”, which provides for the provision of temporary disability and maternity benefits to insured persons (including those who carry out entrepreneurial or other activities and simultaneously work under an employment contract) both at the main place of work (activity) and at the place of work on a part-time basis. There are no restrictions on the number of part-time jobs held by insured persons for which they are entitled to receive insurance payments.

It is emphasized that this provision will apply to insured events that occur from April 4, 2025.

If a person becomes unable to work due to an accident and is in an employment relationship with another insurer (at a different place of work than the one where the accident occurred), such insurer pays the victim for the first 5 days of temporary disability at its own expense in the amount of 100% of the average salary (taxable income), regardless of the employee’s insurance record.

Starting from the sixth day of temporary disability, the Pension Fund of Ukraine will pay for sick leave.

What has the Verkhovna Rada adopted?

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law amending certain legislative acts on compulsory state social insurance.

The main changes to the law include exemption of religious organizations from paying the mandatory state pension insurance fee, replacement of personal insurance for officials of the nature reserve fund with compulsory social insurance, granting the right to temporary disability and pregnancy benefits not only at the main place of work but also at a part-time job, creating the possibility of receiving insurance payments in paper or electronic form in case of force majeure, etc.
