Ukrainian political scientist, Doctor of Political Science Hanna Malkina commented on the peculiarities of the political memory of Ukrainians. According to her, the Ukrainian voter has a very short memory, which is why many politicians benefit from it. She spoke about this in a YouTube interview
“The Ukrainian voter has a very short memory. And we can see this in absolutely all the results of the elections held in Ukraine. Today we live in such a fast-paced information world, when a news item lives for half a day if it is a top story. And the reputational losses of individual politicians, of course, exist and can be used (against them – ed.) when the election campaign begins and they will be reminded of this,” the expert says.
She adds that despite the fact that voters are reminded of some incorrect behavior of politicians, this does not have a significant negative impact on their ratings or electoral results.
“That is, on the one hand, people will not be allowed to forget the incorrect behavior (of a politician – ed.), but it can hardly affect their real ratings or any electoral consequences, because we have such a mosaic in the political spectrum. In fact, our politicians live for one day, roughly speaking, one electoral cycle,” she explained.
