15 international highways are currently under repair in Ukraine: where work is underway
16 March 14:48
Work is actively underway in Ukraine to repair the road surface on international and national highways. Since the beginning of 2026, road maintenance crews have already repaired damage across hundreds of thousands of square meters of road, and they plan to further increase the pace of repairs. This was reported by the Restoration Agency, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
How many roads have already been repaired
According to official data, approximately 650,000 square meters of road surface have been repaired in Ukraine since the beginning of the year. In the last 24 hours alone, 95 repair crews have repaired an additional 71,000 square meters of roads.
Favorable weather allows road workers to use the so-called “large-scale” technology, which involves repairing large sections of the road surface. This makes it possible to:
- improve the quality of repairs
- speed up the completion of work
- reduce the number of repeat repairs
Which roads are undergoing the most extensive repairs
Repair work has covered 15 international highways and certain sections of national roads. The largest repair projects are taking place on the following highways:
- M-05 Kyiv–Odesa — 12,900 m²
- M-06 Kyiv — Chop — 9,700 m²
- M-07 Kyiv — Kovel — Yagodin — 6,900 m²
- M-14 Odesa — Melitopol — Novoazovsk — 6,100 m²
In total, over 1,200 workers across various regions of Ukraine were involved in the roadwork.

Drivers have been given important recommendations
In areas where repairs are underway, drivers are urged to be especially careful, follow temporary road signs, and observe speed limits.
Experts emphasize that this is necessary for the safety of both drivers and road service workers.
The government plans to accelerate the pace of repairs
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that the government has set a goal to increase the pace of road damage repairs.
“I have tasked the Ministry of Development with increasing the pace of roadwork to 150,000 square meters per day by the end of March. This will allow us to repair damage more quickly after the winter season,” she noted.
Special attention is being paid to roads near the front lines
According to Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksiy Kuleba, special attention is being paid to roads that are of strategic importance for defense and medical services.
“A separate focus is on frontline roads that support military logistics, medical evacuation, and supplies for the Defense Forces,” he emphasized.
This involves approximately 600 km of roads that require additional funding and the implementation of engineering solutions, including infrastructure protection measures.
How much is being spent on roads
According to Yulia Klymenko, First Deputy Chair of the Verkhovna Rada’s Transport Committee, over 300 billion hryvnias from the state budget were allocated for road construction and repair in 2020–2023.
At the same time, the 2026 budget provides for:
- 12.6 billion UAH — for road maintenance
- about 15 billion UAH — for servicing debt from previous road projects
Thus, expenditures on loan repayment currently exceed funding for ongoing road maintenance.
What to expect next
The government plans to continue accelerating the pace of road infrastructure repairs, particularly on strategic logistics routes. This should improve traffic safety and ensure stable logistics amid the war.
