Cabbage has fallen sharply in price in Ukraine: details

According to analysts of the EastFruit project, last week, trading and purchasing activity on the Ukrainian white cabbage market was still inactive. Interest in purchases, according to market participants, continued to decline, which was explained by the large volumes of cabbage on the market, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
This week, the owners of unequipped storage facilities were actively selling off stocks, as the quality of cabbage began to deteriorate rapidly due to warm weather. Producers were ready to reduce prices for such products to 1.5 UAH/kg ($0.04/kg).
At the same time, farmers did not agree to sell quality cabbage for less than 2-8 UAH /kg ($0.05-0.19/kg), which is on average 23% cheaper than at the end of the previous working week.
The current situation worries Ukrainian farmers who have stocks of quality cabbage. They are now in no hurry to sell their products, as they hope for higher prices and prefer to refrain from selling.
It is worth adding that today, cabbage in Ukraine is offered on average 85% cheaper than in the same period last year. This is due to the overall increase in production of this product in the country. This year, many farms have decided to increase the area under cabbage. In addition, in many cases, the quality of cabbage this season has suffered due to unfavorable weather conditions. Such products cannot be stored for long periods of time, which is why farmers are now forced to sell large volumes of substandard cabbage.
