Prices for cabbage of the new harvest have risen sharply in Ukraine: what happened
24 June 2025 10:26
This week, Ukraine has seen a significant increase in prices for new-crop white cabbage. According to analysts of the EastFruit project, the reason for the rise in price was a shortage of products on the market due to the seasonal change in varieties, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Why cabbage has risen in price
According to farmers, the cabbage market is currently in transition. Stocks of early varieties on farms are virtually exhausted, while cabbage of medium and late varieties has not yet gone on sale. This has created a shortage, which has led to a rise in prices amid stable demand.
At the same time, the demand for cabbage is currently quite high, which also provokes price growth in this segment.
Currently, producers sell white cabbage at 10-20 UAH/kg ($0.24-0.48/kg). This is on average 29% more expensive than at the end of last week.
Prices for cabbage have almost tripled in a year
Analysts say that cabbage harvested in 2025 is currently 2.9 times more expensive than in mid-June 2024.
Thus, the seasonal factor and limited supply are driving record high prices in this segment of the vegetable market.
When prices for cabbage may go down
Despite the rapid rise in prices, experts predict a possible decline in prices in the near future.
This will happen as soon as farmers start harvesting medium-sized cabbage, which will significantly increase supply on the market.
