Oscar film selection has started in Ukraine: how to apply

The Ukrainian Oscar Committee has started accepting applications for participation in the selection for the 98th Academy Awards of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the Best International Feature Film category. This was reported by the State Film Agency of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Applications are accepted for films that meet the requirements of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
This is an important event for Ukrainian cinema, which opens up the opportunity to present domestic films on the international stage.
Selection criteria
Only films that meet the Academy’s strict requirements are eligible for selection:
- Format and duration: The film must be full-length (at least 40 minutes long).
- Place of production: The film must be produced outside the United States of America.
- Language: Dialogue in the film must be predominantly in a language other than English (more than 50% of the dialog).
- Type of film: Both fiction, documentary and animated films are eligible for consideration.
- Distribution: The film must be released commercially for the first time in the country of submission between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025. The film must be shown for at least 7 consecutive days in a commercial theater with ticket sales and profit for the producer and the theater.
- Distribution restrictions: Films that have been publicly screened or distributed outside of theaters (e.g., on television, PPV/VOD, DVD, airlines, the Internet, etc.) prior to qualifying are not el igible.
Application deadlines
Applications will be accepted from July 16 to August 3, 2025 inclusive. All interested producers and directors must submit their work by the deadline to be considered for selection.
