Apple prices in Ukraine are set to rise significantly: what are the reasons?

The Ukrainian market is facing a shortage of high-quality apples, and prices for the product may rise significantly in the near future, reports "Komersant Ukrainian", citing EastFruit.
This was reported by Vitaliy Nigalatiy, director of the “Youth Agrarian Union” LLC in the Chernivtsi region, in a comment to the magazine “Ukrainian Gardening.”
According to the farmer, the root cause is miscalculations during last season’s harvest. Some of the produce reached storage facilities already overripe, which negatively affected its shelf life. An additional factor was the refusal of a number of producers to use ripening-delay agents—in particular, Harvest, which allows fruit to be stored in optimal condition.
“Inmy opinion, there is a shortage of high-quality commercial apples on the market, and prices will rise,” Nigalatyi emphasized.
As a result, the supply of high-quality produce is shrinking faster than expected, which is already setting the stage for a price spike.
