Internet connectivity has plummeted in Ukraine and Moldova due to power supply issues. This was reported by the international internet monitoring service NetBlocks on social media platform X.
“The data shows a decline in internet connectivity in Ukraine, which has also affected Moldova,” the organization said in its account.
Power supply disruptions
On January 31, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported power outages in Ukraine after the shutdown of a high-voltage line connecting Moldova and Romania. He explained that a technical failure led to the simultaneous shutdown of the 400 kV line between the power systems of Romania and Moldova, as well as the 750 kV line connecting the western and central parts of Ukraine.
On the same day, the Moldovan Ministry of Energy reported power outages in some regions of the country. Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban reported large-scale power outages in the capital, the suspension of trolleybus service, and efforts by local authorities to solve the problem using generators.
