In Ukraine, the prices for sunflower and sunflower oil remain higher than the world market due to low seed stocks at the end of the 2024/25 season and limited supply.
This was reported by the Electronic Grain Exchange of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“Amid the reduction of sunflower stocks and the transition of processing enterprises to soybeans and rapeseed, domestic demand prices for crude sunflower oil increased to 58-60 thousand UAH/t (1160-1200 USD/t) on FCA ex-factory terms. For comparison, the export prices are 1135-1145 USD/t for deliveries in August and 1100 USD/t – in September,” the report said.
August prices for Ukrainian oil on foreign markets reach 1210-1220 $/t for India, 1150 $/t for China, 1200-1220 $/t for the EU.
In the South of Ukraine – in Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovs’k regions – the sunflower harvest is expected to decrease by 1 mln tonnes due to the drought. However, in general, the country’s growing conditions remain favorable, and the forecast for the season is 13.5-14 mln tonnes.
At the same time, according to the estimates of Oil World (Germany), the global sunflower production in 2025/26 MY will increase by 7.6%, from 55.1 mln tonnes to 59.3 mln tonnes.
Experts note that Kazakhstan is actively increasing production and exports of sunflower to China, covering a significant part of its demand. This creates additional competition for Ukrainian producers, who will continue to compete with Russian suppliers for the Indian market. The EU’s demand for Ukrainian oil, on the other hand, is declining due to increased domestic production of rapeseed and sunflower.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in 2025, the area under oilseeds in Ukraine will amount to 8.9 million hectares, of which more than 5.17 million hectares will be under sunflower.
