Ukraine has set a date for a complete farewell to 3G, a technology that has been in operation since 2015

Ukraine will completely shut down third-generation (3G) mobile Internet on December 31, 2030. This decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers, Ekonomichna Pravda reports , citing a government decree, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The frequencies currently used for 3G will be reoriented to modern communication standards, including 5G.
This should ensure faster data transmission, more efficient use of spectrum, and lower traffic costs. The Ministry of Digital Transformation believes that this step will help avoid a technological lag and encourage subscribers to switch to new standards.
The gradual shutdown of 3G in Ukraine began in early 2025. Subscribers will be warned about the changes in advance. Nothing will change for owners of push-button phones on 2G networks – calls and SMS will remain available.
If a region currently has only 3G, it will be replaced with a newer standard and the network will not be disconnected until 4G is available. SIM cards that do not support 4G can be replaced free of charge at the operators’ service centers with the same number.
Ukraine officially launched 3G in 2015 after the country’s first-ever tender for third-generation frequencies. The first commercial networks started operating in May of the same year.
