Prices for carrots have risen in Ukraine

21 December 19:10

The growth of trade activity is driving up prices for carrots in Ukrainian farms, according to analysts of the EastFruit project, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The main reason for the rise in prices in this segment was a reduction in the supply of carrots on the market due to the seasonal factor.

To date, farmers in the main production regions are shipping quality root crops at 8-15 UAH/kg ($0.19-0.36/kg), which is on average 24% more expensive than at the end of last week.

Market operators attribute this price trend to a significant reduction in the supply of carrots during the off-season. In particular, most farms have already finished selling medium-sized carrots, while harvesting of later varieties has not yet begun.

It should be noted that despite the rise in prices, the price of quality carrots in Ukraine is still on average 35% lower than a year ago. At the same time, some producers are planning to continue raising prices if the current sales rate is maintained.
