A private air defense system has gone into operation in Ukraine: who can use its services

A component of Ukraine’s private air defense system, which uses remotely controlled machine guns to combat drones, has become operational.

This was reported by Sergey “Flash” Beskrestnov, a radio technology expert and advisor to the Minister of Defense, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

This is an innovative solution that allows for the engagement of aerial targets—specifically drones—using remotely controlled machine gun turrets.

Journalists were shown how the system works: an operator can control the unit remotely and aim it at a target in real time.

At the same time, business representatives can utilize private air defense services. According to the Defense Minister’s advisor, this opens up opportunities for additional protection of enterprises, particularly energy facilities and other critical infrastructure.

These turrets, equipped with M2-type machine guns, are capable of operating at a range of up to 2 kilometers. Their primary task is to protect critical infrastructure from drone attacks.

A distinctive feature of the project is that it is a private initiative. Enterprises or other facilities requiring additional protection can order such systems.

Experts note that the emergence of such solutions demonstrates the active development of the private sector in the defense sphere. Unlike government agencies, businesses can implement new technologies more quickly due to fewer bureaucratic procedures.

At the same time, the public demonstration of such systems has sparked online debate regarding the appropriateness of disclosing such information during wartime.
