Japanese pickups will be assembled in Ukraine using SKD technology: what is known
17 December 2024 13:55Ukraine will launch a new joint project of several Ukrainian manufacturers and a Japanese engineering company to produce pickup trucks using large-scale assembly (SKD) technology. This was announced during a business forum organized by the Japan External Trade Organization, First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“Together with Ukrainian partners, the Japanese company plans to start producing pickup trucks using large-node assembly technology, and in the future they plan to move to small-node production (CKD). This is a good signal to other Japanese investors that localizing the production of their products in Ukraine is a mutually beneficial cooperation. During a meeting with more than 200 Japanese entrepreneurs, I called on other companies to open production facilities in Ukraine or localize their technologies in cooperation with Ukrainian companies,” said Yulia Svyrydenko.
During the meeting with Japanese business representatives, the First Vice Prime Minister spoke about the available tools to support investors, in particular under the “Made in Ukraine” policy. Currently, more than 40 key Japanese companies operate in Ukraine, and this project is another step towards attracting new investors.
During a meeting with more than 200 Japanese entrepreneurs, the First Vice Prime Minister familiarized them with the tools available to them in Ukraine. In particular
- compensation for projects with significant investments;
- tax and customs benefits within industrial parks;
- insurance against military risks, etc.
According to her, war risk insurance is currently available to investors from the U.S. Agency for International Development (DFC), the multilateral investment guarantee agency MIGA, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), foreign export credit agencies, and the Ukrainian ECA.
Svyrydenko thanked Japan for its $36 million contribution to the SURE Trust Fund. This strengthens the capabilities of the multilateral investment guarantee agency MIGA.
The minister also expressed gratitude to the Japanese international cooperation agencies JICA and JICS for their support projects for Ukraine, including through placing orders with Ukrainian enterprises and implementing the principle of “help Ukraine with Ukrainian goods,” as well as to the Japanese export credit agency NEXI.
“Japan has allocated approximately EUR 1.25 billion through NEXI initiatives, providing reliable financial support for Japanese companies willing to invest and operate in the Ukrainian market. We look forward to strengthening the cooperation between the Ukrainian Export Credit Agency and NEXI, especially in terms of capital mobilization for the Ukrainian ECA. We also look forward to further cooperation with Ukrainian businesses in key economic sectors to attract Japanese technologies,” added Yulia Svyrydenko.
