Cucumber prices have risen significantly in Ukraine: what is the reason

Currently, the Ukrainian market is experiencing a shortage of quality cucumbers, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. This fact has led to a further increase in prices in this segment, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the daily monitoring of the project, today stationary greenhouse plants offer cucumbers for sale at 85-110 UAH/kg ($2.02-2.61/kg), which is on average 10% more expensive than a week earlier.
According to the project analysts, Ukrainian producers are able to continue raising the price of their products due to the stable demand of retailers for better quality vegetables. Most Ukrainian retailers prefer cucumbers from local factories, even though the price of these products is slightly higher than that of imported ones. Representatives of the chains explain their decision by the very low quality of imported products, which is significantly inferior to cucumbers from local greenhouse plants.
Cucumber prices in Ukraine are also supported by the rapidly declining supply of these vegetables from Ukrainian producers. Most local greenhouse plants have actually completed the season of current turnover. At the same time, despite another rise in prices in this segment, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are at least 10% cheaper than in the same period last year.
