Tomato prices have risen significantly in Ukraine: what are the reasons?

13 September 2025 08:18

Prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine have been rising for the second week in a row. The main reason for this is a reduction in supply. Greenhouse plants are harvesting smaller yields, and seasonal open-grown tomatoes have virtually disappeared from the market.

EastFruit writes about this, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

In the last week alone, the cost of greenhouse tomatoes has increased by an average of 14%. Now they are shipped at 35-55 UAH/kg ($0.85-1.33/kg).

Producers note that the price increase is supported by strong demand from retailers and wholesalers. In addition, the price dynamics is also affected by the rise in price of ground tomatoes.

Despite the current price increase, greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are still on average 30% cheaper than they were in early September 2024.
