Barley is falling in price again in Ukraine: traders have purchased the necessary volumes, the market is stabilizing

2 September 16:14

As of the beginning of September 2025, barley prices in Ukraine are showing a downward trend, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the Electronic Grain Exchange of Ukraine, after a short-term rise to record levels, the cost of feed barley has fallen again, as traders and processors have already purchased the necessary volumes for export.

Price dynamics

  • Last week, prices reached 10400-10450 UAH/t, which was the highest level of the season.
  • On Monday, September 1, prices dropped to 10300-10350 UAH/t or $215-217/t with delivery to the Black Sea ports.

The decline is explained by the end of active purchases and pressure from other grains:

  • milling wheat – 217-220 $/t
  • feed wheat – 200-206 $/t
  • forward prices for corn – 195-200 $/t

Harvest and quality

  • Barley harvesting has been completed in both Ukraine and the EU.
  • As of August 29, Ukraine harvested 5.16 mln tons of winter and spring barley.
  • The yield is 3.84 tons per hectare from an area of 1.343 million hectares, which corresponds to 97% of the planned area.
  • The quality of malting barley was better than expected, which puts additional pressure on feed grain prices.

Export activity

In 2025/26 marketing year (as of August 29), Ukraine exported 562 thsd tonnes of barley.

This is almost two times less than in the same period last year (1.09 mln tonnes).

Despite the decline in volumes, export prices remain competitive, exceeding the cost of other grains.
