Trends in the fruit and vegetable market
Despite the overall decline in supply, tomatoes remain the most popular product. The supply of bell peppers has decreased, while cucumbers have become more active. The frequency of offers of sweet corn has increased, while the supply of eggplants has decreased. The supply of onions, which has become the most popular vegetable in the “borshch basket,” has increased significantly. According to forecasts, the onion harvest in Ukraine this season will be 20-25% lower. Other borsch vegetables are offered less frequently, and beetroot remains the least represented among them.
In the fruit and berry market, the supply of watermelons continues to decline, but this product is still the leader in terms of sales in its segment. In Italy, on the contrary, farmers are even refusing to pick watermelons due to low prices. The number of peaches is increasing among sellers, while the supply of plums and nectarines is decreasing. Sales of apples and grapes are growing rapidly. The Prognosfruit 2025 conference presented price forecasts for apples and outlined ten key challenges for the fruit sector.
