Tomato prices are rising in Ukraine
28 December 17:14
This week, prices for greenhouse tomatoes have risen significantly in Ukraine, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. The reason for such a rapid rise in price was the insufficient supply of this product on the market due to the end of the season. Prices in this segment are also supported by the rush demand for greenhouse vegetables from Ukrainian consumers on the eve of the New Year holidays, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the daily monitoring of the project, tomatoes are currently on sale at prices of 80-100 UAH/kg ($1.90-2.37/kg), depending on the quality and volume of lots, which is on average 20% more expensive than at the end of the last business week.
Also, prices in this segment are supported by expensive imported products, the prices of which have increased significantly compared to last week. At the same time, the supply of imported vegetables on the Ukrainian market is very limited.
We would like to add that the prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are now practically in the same range as at the end of December 2024. However, key market players do not rule out that the rate of price increase for these products may slow down in the near future, as retailers and wholesalers have almost completed stockpiling for the first weeks of the new year 2026.
