Prices for Turkish tomatoes are rising in Ukraine

13 December 12:14

A noticeable increase in demand for greenhouse tomatoes on the eve of the New Year holidays is provoking an active rise in product prices on the Ukrainian market, according to analysts of the EastFruit project, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

At the same time, the project’s experts emphasize that at the moment, the main share of sales is exclusively imported tomatoes made in Turkey.

According to traders, since the beginning of the week alone, Turkish tomatoes have risen in price on the Ukrainian market by an average of 10%. As of today, imported tomatoes go on sale at 70-80 UAH/kg ($1.66-1.89/kg), depending on the quality, batch sizes and varieties of products offered.

According to market participants, the supply of vegetables on the market this week was insufficient. Sampling at local factories was practically not carried out due to the end of the sales season. At the same time, imported products could not fully satisfy the emerging demand. As a result, sellers were able to raise selling prices for imported tomatoes.

It should be noted that greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are currently offered for sale at almost the same prices as a year ago. At the same time, market players are confident in further price increases for these products, as despite the price increase, demand in this segment remains consistently high.
