on August 19, as part of repatriation measures, 1000 bodies of the dead, which, according to the Russian side, belong to the Ukrainian military, were returned to Ukraine.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“Unfortunately, among the repatriated are five Ukrainian servicemen who died in captivity. They were on the lists of seriously wounded and seriously ill people identified for exchange during the negotiations in Istanbul,” the headquarters said.

The agency emphasized that Russia continues to delay the process and fails to fulfill its obligations, while Ukraine seeks the immediate release of all wounded and seriously ill prisoners.

Among those returned “on a shield” are defenders from the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and Kursk sectors. In the near future, the bodies will undergo examinations and identification by investigators and experts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The repatriation was carried out thanks to the coordinated work of the Coordination Headquarters, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ombudsman’s Office and other structures of the security and defense sector. Special thanks were expressed to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which provided transportation of the bodies to specialized institutions.
