Ukrnafta has completed the competitive selection process: who will head the company and what is known about him

The Supervisory Board of Ukrnafta JSC has elected Bohdan Kukura as the new Chairman of the Board. The decision was made following an open competition that lasted from August and, according to Naftogaz Group, was held in accordance with OECD corporate governance standards, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Who is the new CEO?

Bohdan Kukura is a manager with many years of experience in the oil and gas sector.

Prior to his appointment, he was the Production Director and Chief Engineer of Ukrnafta, and previously worked for Ukrgasvydobuvannya and the private company Regal Petroleum.

His career has been in field development and production projects, making him an “internal” candidate for the company.

“Ukrnafta is a key asset of the state in oil and gas production and is part of the Naftogaz Group. The appointment comes amid reforms and management transformation launched after 2022. Naftogaz CEO Serhiy Koretsky directly linked Kukura’s choice to the need to maintain this course.

Who ran the company before Bohdan Kukura

In the spring, the company was temporarily headed by CFO Yuriy Tkachuk. A full-fledged competitive selection process was supposed to demonstrate compliance with the principles of transparency and independence of supervisory boards, requirements insisted on by Ukraine’s international partners.

The new CEO will have to combine management stability with further reforms to improve production efficiency, financial discipline and corporate governance. How successful this transition will be will become clear in the first months of his work.
