Since the beginning of September, Hasidic pilgrims have begun arriving in the Cherkasy region to celebrate the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, which will be celebrated in October this year. This was reported by the press service of the State Migration Service of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
It is noted that today Uman was visited by the head of the Central-Southern Interregional Department of the State Migration Service, Andriy Kocherga. Thus, together with the police and the Department of Strategic Investigations, he held a meeting on the safety of pilgrims and their compliance with the law.
“Currently, there are about 500 Hasidim in Uman, and a massive arrival is expected next week,” the statement said.
This year, a record influx of pilgrims is expected – more than 50,000 people. In this regard, the Migration Service and law enforcement agencies will work in an enhanced mode.

In 2024, the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, will be celebrated from 2 to 4 October, but pilgrims are expected as early as September.
Every year, tens of thousands of Jews who profess one of the streams of Judaism, Hasidism, make a pilgrimage to Uman, where the grave of the founder of Bratslav Hasidism, Tzadik Nachman, who lived in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, is located. The pilgrimage is timed to coincide with the celebration of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, which this year is celebrated from 2 to 4 October.
The Hasidim believe that if they celebrate Rosh Hashanah at the grave of Tzadik Nachman, the next year will be very happy for them.
