Wadeful: Kyiv needs guarantees similar to NATO membership

German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadefuhl has said that Ukraine should receive security guarantees that would actually be close to NATO membership.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Deutsche Welle.
During the German government’s Open House, Johannes Wadefuhl said that Ukraine cannot be required to think seriously about territorial concessions unless it receives at least real security guarantees from as many states as possible.
According to the official, if we insist on such security guarantees, it will eventually convince Vladimir Putin.
“Then this could become the basis for us to finally have peace in Europe again,” the minister said.
Against this background, Wadefull warned that “a violation of the security guarantee would be an attack on Ukraine.”
Johannes Wadefuhl emphasized that there should be a wide range of states that will provide Ukraine with security guarantees for the post-war period. Therefore, the circle of guarantor countries should be expanded, for example, at the expense of the United States.
The German Foreign Minister reminded that about 30 countries, including Japan, have expressed their readiness to support Ukraine.
At the same time, he noted that the peace agreement with Russia should not become a “dictatorial peace” to the detriment of Ukraine and called on Putin to stop the aggressive war against Ukraine and come to the negotiating table. If Russia continues its aggression, he emphasized, the West will continue to strongly support Ukraine.
