The High Council of Justice has made a decision regarding Galushchenko: what is known

Former Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko will remain in custody following a decision by the High Anti-Corruption Court. This was reported by the Anti-Corruption Action Center, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Investigative judge Viktor Nogachevsky partially upheld the defense’s complaint regarding the alleged illegal detention of the former official, but did not change his status — Galushchenko will remain in custody until a preventive measure is chosen.
The court considered Galushchenko’s complaint but left him in custody
The complaint filed by Herman Galushchenko’s lawyers concerned the circumstances of his detention. The defense insisted that the detention was illegal, but the High Anti-Corruption Court judge found only some of the arguments to be partially justified.
Despite this, the court did not decide to release the former minister. Galushchenko will remain in custody until the hearing at which the court will determine the preventive measure.
The preventive measure is expected to be chosen on February 17. The prosecution insists on keeping him in custody.
How Herman Halushchenko was detained: details of the case
According to official information, on the night of February 14-15, Herman Galushchenko was on a train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw. At 3:38 a.m., he was removed from the train on the basis of Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
According to his lawyers, border guards received information about a possible attempt to cross the border and notified NABU detectives. After that, the former minister was detained and taken to Kyiv.
Halushchenko was brought to the capital at around 7:00 p.m. on February 15.
Suspicion in the Midas case: what the former minister is accused of
On February 16, Herman Halushchenko was officially notified of his suspicion of legalizing funds obtained by illegal means as part of the large-scale Midas case.
According to the investigation:
- the amount of funds likely to have been legalized exceeds UAH 400 million;
- one of the episodes under investigation is the payment for the education of Halushchenko’s children in Switzerland;
- according to law enforcement, the former minister’s family carried out financial transactions through international funds.
Investigators also established that Galushchenko’s children have residence permits in Switzerland, which is confirmed by international inquiries.

What is known about the Midas case
The Midas case is being investigated by NABU and SAP. According to the investigation, in 2021, a special fund was created on the island of Anguilla to attract about $100 million in “investments” that could be used to legalize illegal income.
Law enforcement officials suspect that funds obtained through illegal activities in the energy sector were transferred through international financial structures, offshore companies, and bank accounts.
The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement agencies continue to gather evidence.
What will happen next
On February 17, the High Anti-Corruption Court will consider the issue of choosing a preventive measure for Herman Galushchenko. The prosecution will request that he be held in custody.
The court’s decision may determine the further course of this high-profile case involving the former head of Ukraine’s energy sector.
