On Friday, 4 October, the High Anti-Corruption Court ruled to remand in absentia a former MP accused of embezzling more than UAH 1.5bn from Cherkasyoblenergo and Zaporizhzhyaoblenergo. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the HACC press service .
It is noted that the HACC also decided to conduct a special trial against the former MP in the absence of the accused (in absentia).
The court does not name the defendant, but the human rights organisation Transparency International Ukraine writes that it is Dmytro Kriuchkov.
They added that on 3 October 2024, the HACCU panel of judges put Dmytro Kriuchkov on the international wanted list. It is known that the former MP went abroad on 15 February 2024 and did not return. He has five children, which allows him to leave Ukraine without hindrance.
Kriuchkov then joined the meetings online. Interestingly, Kryuchkov invited a cameraman to the meeting, who was filming a film about the presiding judge Kruk.
Kriuchkov is accused of embezzling more than UAH 1.5 billion from Cherkasyoblenergo and Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo. NABU detectives have been investigating the case of misappropriation of Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo’s property on a particularly large scale since 2015.
