Parubiy murder: detained suspect gives first testimony

A suspect in the murder of a public and political figure, former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and current MP Andriy Parubiy was detained in Khmelnytsky region. Necessary investigative actions are currently underway. This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko and Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk have just reported on the detention of a suspect in the murder of Andriy Parubiy. The necessary investigative actions are underway. I have instructed them to present the available information to the public. I am grateful to law enforcement for their prompt and well-coordinated work. All the circumstances of this terrible murder must be clarified,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko reported to Zelensky that the suspect in the murder of Andriy Parubiy had given his first testimony.
“I am grateful to everyone involved in this work. The National Police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Prosecutor’s Office – everyone is acting as efficiently as possible,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
He noted that the entire law enforcement team and prosecutors continue to work around the clock.
Details of the arrest of Parubiy’s killer
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, the alleged shooter was detained on the night of September 1, 2025, in Khmelnytskyi region.
“Dozens of police officers from the Lviv region and the central office of the National Police, as well as officers of the Security Service of Ukraine, worked to solve the case.”
“The crime and the detention were under the personal control of the President of Ukraine… I won’t give many details now. I will only say that the crime was carefully prepared: the schedule of the deceased’s movements was studied, the route was laid out, and an escape plan was thought out,” Klymenko said.
He emphasized that the police and the Security Service of Ukraine “showed a high professional level” and got on the direct trail of the alleged killer within 24 hours after the shooting. The suspect was detained 36 hours after Parubiy’s death.
Klymenko promised “more details later.”
As a reminder, MP and former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy was killed on August 30 in the middle of the street in Lviv. An unidentified gunman disguised as a delivery man fired eight shots at him on Yefremova Street and then fled. The 54-year-old politician died on the spot from his wounds.
According to preliminary information, the murder was planned in advance. The investigation is considering several versions, including a possible Russian trace. It has been established that the attacker was wearing a disguise and posing as a courier of the Glovo delivery service.
