For the second time in a week: Ukraine strikes military airfield in Adygea

On the night of December 29, the Republic of Adygea was attacked by Ukrainian drones. Three airplane-type drones were shot down over the region, the Russian Defense Ministry reported, "Komersant Ukrainian" citing Russian propaganda media.

The military department did not provide any details. Local authorities also did not provide any information about the night raid and its consequences. According to the video recordings of the residents of the republic, the Khansk military airfield was hit. This was reported by the Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova.

The airfield is located about 3 km east of the village of the same name and 6 km northwest of the capital of Adygea, Maikop. The distance to the territory controlled by Ukraine is about 500 km. The airfield is home to military unit No. 55661 and the 272nd training aviation base of the 2nd category. Prior to the outbreak of full-scale war, Khanska was used mainly for training flights. L-39 Albatross combat trainer aircraft were deployed at the base, where Russian aviation personnel were trained. Khanska has been repeatedly attacked by Ukrainian forces in the past. The last attack took place on December 25. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the target was hit and a fire broke out at the site. However, it was not specified what the target was.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry’s report, 89 Ukrainian airplane-type drones were “intercepted and destroyed” by regular air defense systems overnight. Most of the drones – 49 – were shot down over the Bryansk region. Also, 18 drones appeared in the sky over Novgorod region, one over Orel, Rostov and Smolensk regions, and seven over Krasnodar region. In addition, on the morning of December 29, the authorities of Rostov Region and Krasnodar Krai announced a missile threat, but no “arrivals” were reported.

Prior to that, on December 27, Russian troops launched a massive strike against Ukraine. In total, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 40 missiles and 519 drones were fired at targets in the country. Some of the drones were launched from the Rostov region and Krasnodar Territory. Three multi-story residential buildings caught fire in Kyiv. At least five civilians were injured.
