27 March 2025 17:15

In 2025, the cost of a traditional Easter basket for Ukrainians has increased compared to last year. Its average price ranges from 1200 to 1500 hryvnias, depending on the region, place of purchase and choice of products, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to the infographic.

The cost of an Easter basket has increased in 2025, but with a competent approach to purchases, Ukrainians can save a lot of money. It is important to focus on local markets, cook at home, and take advantage of supermarket promotions.

What is included in the Easter basket in 2025?

An Easter basket usually consists of traditional foods that have a symbolic meaning:

1. Easter cake (0.5 kg) – from 150 to 250 UAH. Home-made baked goods will cost less – about 100 UAH. Store-bought Easter cakes with candied fruit or chocolate are more expensive.

2. Sausage (0.5 kg) – from 388 UAH. The most expensive types are smoked sausages and homemade products.

3. Lard (0.5 kg) – 150-180 UAH. Prices may be lower at markets, especially in rural areas.

4. Eggs (10 pieces) – 58-63 UAH. The price depends on the producer and category (home-made eggs are more expensive).

5. Cottage cheese (0.5 kg) – from 180 UAH. It has risen in price especially due to rising prices for dairy products.

6. Butter (200 g) – about 80 UAH. The price has increased due to higher energy costs.

7. Horseradish and salt – 19-50 UAH. These are products that remain affordable, but still show a slight increase in prices.

8. Blessed candle – 25-69 UAH. Handmade candles are more expensive, but churches often offer affordable options.

Why did the price of an Easter basket rise in 2025?

The increase in the cost of the Easter basket was the result of several economic factors:

1. Inflation. The overall inflation rate in Ukraine in 2025 remains at 10-12%, which affects food prices.

2. Fuel costs and logistics. Higher fuel prices and increased transportation costs have led to higher food prices, especially in regions far from producers.

3. Increased production costs. Energy prices rose, which affected the cost of producing dairy, meat, and bakery products.

4. Dependence on imports. Imported products and ingredients, such as candied fruits, chocolate, or spices, have increased in price due to currency fluctuations.

5. Seasonal fluctuations. Easter holidays traditionally cause increased demand, which also affects price formation.

Regional differences in prices

Kyiv and large cities – prices are the highest, as the cost of renting retail space and logistics costs are significant.

Western Ukraine – due to local production of dairy and meat products, prices for cheese, butter and sausage may be lower.

Eastern Ukraine – in the frontline regions, products are more expensive due to disrupted logistics and unstable supplies.

Central Ukraine – prices here are close to the national average, with the advantage of local farmers’ markets.
