Yulia Gryshyna, a member of parliament and chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada’s subcommittee on higher education, has proposed postponing the external independent testing for young people from frontline regions. The politician said this during the discussion forum for educators and employers “You can’t let the youth go” organized by the Kommersant Ukrainian newspaper.
“That’s why we propose postponing the EIT. This is one of the ways, only one of the ways, to keep young people in these regions and these regions to live, breathe and work. Because there are factories there, there are still many things that need to be maintained, and they produce what is needed in our country, necessarily in today’s conditions,” Hryshyna emphasized.
She explained that young people who failed to pass the EIT will be able to enter frontline universities with the obligation to pass the exam during their studies.
“We will discuss how this will happen, and I think we will resolve this issue. But they should have this opportunity, and this is one of the ways to keep young people in the frontline regions,” the MP added.
Hryshyna noted that the initiative is facing some resistance in the parliament.
“Not everyone supports this initiative. But we are working, and I think we will still come up with some solution,” Hryshyna said.
She also emphasized that the problem of retaining young people in Ukraine is complex and requires comprehensive solutions: job opportunities, state support, opportunities for young people to realize themselves, and opportunities to study at Ukrainian universities.
