Supreme Court finally dismisses its former head Knyazev

The Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court upheld the HCJ’s decision to dismiss Knyazev from the post of Supreme Court judge. In May 2023, he was detained for a bribe of $2.7 million. This was reported by the press service of the Supreme Court, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
on July 18, 2024, the High Council of Justice issued a decision upholding the decision of the First Disciplinary Chamber of the HCJ of June 17, 2024, to bring Knyazev to disciplinary responsibility and impose a disciplinary sanction in the form of a motion to dismiss him from the post of Supreme Court judge.
on August 15, he appealed this decision of the HCJ to the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court.
“Following consideration of the cassation appeal, today, December 12, 2024, the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court decided to uphold the decision of the HCJ of July 18, 2024, to bring Knyazev to disciplinary responsibility and dismiss him from the post of Supreme Court judge,” the press service said.
As a reminder, former Supreme Court Chief Justice Vsevolod Kniazev is accused of taking $2.7 million in bribes. For this money, the judge ruled in favor of oligarch and billionaire Konstantin Zhevago.
He was released from the pre-trial detention center in late January 2024 on bail of over UAH 18 million.
Finally, in February 2024, the High Council of Justice suspended Knyazev from administering justice as a Supreme Court judge in connection with criminal charges.
In May 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court removed the former Chief Justice’s electronic tracking bracelet because Knyazev complained that he was allergic to the device.
on July 10, several Ukrainian media outlets reported that Vsevolod Knyazev was detained near the Romanian border in the village of Solotvyno in Zakarpattia.
In turn, Knyazev’s lawyer Ivan Starosta said that his client was not detained, but only checked his documents and found out the purpose of his visit to the border area.
