Butter in Ukraine is more expensive than in Poland: expert names reasons

Ukrainian butter is more expensive than in Poland for objective reasons. This was stated by Olena Zhupinas, Deputy Director General of the Association of Milk Producers, in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
“In Poland, the VAT rate on milk is only 6%, and for a long time it was zero. In Ukraine, it is 20%. This makes our product more expensive,” she said.
According to her, the lower excise tax rate and lower energy costs reduce the final cost of the product on the shelves of Polish stores.
As a reminder, according to the State Statistics Service, butter prices in Ukraine in 2025 increased by almost 15% compared to last year. In Poland, the average price of this product remains lower due to government subsidies for farmers and more stable logistics.
Ukraine has also seen a drop in milk production due to a decline in the number of cows and high feed and energy costs. This automatically increases the cost of butter.
