Veterans can get rehabilitation equipment free of charge: how to apply

People with disabilities, military personnel, veterans of military service and law enforcement agencies, as well as some other categories of the population, can receive rehabilitation equipment free of charge. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Ukrainian Veterans Fund.

The programme provides for prosthetic and orthopaedic products, including footwear, self-care and grooming products, mobility aids, etc.

To receive rehabilitation aids, you need to provide an identity card, a conclusion from a commission (medical and social expert, medical advisory or military medical, depending on the category of person), an individual rehabilitation programme and other supporting documents.

You can also purchase the equipment on your own for medical reasons with subsequent reimbursement of the cost in accordance with the maximum prices approved by the Ministry of Social Policy.

Who can receive rehabilitation equipment free of charge

The following people can receive rehabilitation equipment free of charge:

  • Persons with disabilities;
  • Persons covered by the Law of Ukraine “On the Status of Veterans of Military Service, Veterans of Law Enforcement Agencies, Veterans of the National Police and Other Persons and Their Social Protection”;
  • Military personnel.

What rehabilitation aids can be obtained free of charge

People with disabilities, military personnel, veterans of military service and law enforcement agencies, as well as some other categories of the population, can receive free of charge:

  • Prosthetic and orthopaedic devices, including orthopaedic footwear;
  • Special means for self-care and care;
  • Auxiliary aids for personal mobility, movement and lifting;
  • Means of transport;
  • Furniture and equipment;
  • Special aids for orientation, communication and information exchange.

How to apply

An application for rehabilitation aids or compensation can be submitted through social protection authorities, ASCs or a person’s electronic cabinet.

To receive rehabilitation aids, you must provide

  • an identity card, an opinion on medical indications for the provision of rehabilitation equipment issued by a medical and social expert commission, a medical advisory commission or a military medical commission, depending on the category of person.
  • an application for rehabilitation equipment or compensation to the social protection authorities, administrative service centre or through the person’s electronic cabinet.
  • for military personnel, it is necessary to additionally submit copies of certificates on the circumstances of the injury issued by the commander of the military unit and other documents confirming participation in the anti-terrorist operation or in measures to ensure national security and defence, protection of the security of the population and the interests of the state in connection with the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
