From $300 billion to $677 billion: Elon Musk has set a financial record
16 December 05:56
American entrepreneur and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has set a new historical record – the businessman’s fortune has crossed the $600 billion mark for the first time. At the same time, he is approaching the goal of becoming the first trillionaire in history. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Forbes magazine.
As of December 15, his fortune is estimated at $677 billion, making Musk the richest man on the planet with an unprecedented lead over other participants in the ranking.
At the same time, no one else has ever had a fortune of $500 billion.
Why Musk’s fortune has grown so dramatically
According to the magazine, the main factor behind this growth was the sharp increase in the value of his space company SpaceX. After a successful deal with investors, the company was valued at $800 billion. And since Musk owns a significant stake in SpaceX, his personal wealth has also grown significantly.
As noted, SpaceX plans to go public in 2026, which may lead to a further increase in its value.
Currently, the company has become Musk’s most valuable asset, surpassing even his 12 percent stake in the automotive company Tesla ($197 billion). Thanks to this, Elon Musk remains the richest man on the planet with a big advantage over other participants in the ranking.
Tesla’s compensation package: another financial factor
Forbes also draws attention to Tesla’s compensation package approved by shareholders. It provides for payments of up to $1 trillion to Musk over the next 10 years if the company reaches certain financial targets.
If this package is implemented:
- musk’s annual income could exceed the total salary of millions of American workers.
How far is Musk ahead of other billionaires
For comparison:
- Larry Page (Google) – $252 billion
- The difference between Musk and his closest competitor is $425 billion
No person in history has ever owned a fortune of $500 billion, let alone $600 billion.
From $300 billion to $677 billion: how Musk’s fortune has changed
Musk’s financial trajectory has been unstable:
- december last year – $486 billion (previous peak);
- april – a drop below $300 billion due to the tariff policy of US President Donald Trump;
- september – Musk temporarily overtook Larry Ellison (Oracle);
- december – a new historical high.
Will Musk become the first trillionaire?
Analysts believe that if SpaceX’s IPO is successful, the AI and space technology market grows, and Elon Musk retains control over key assets, he could become the first person with a $1 trillion capital in the second half of the decade.
