Since the beginning of 2024, there have been significantly more, not fewer, new individual entrepreneurs

Over the past 2 months, the number of individual entrepreneurs has increased by 7 thousand, i.e. 47.7 thousand new individual entrepreneurs against 40.7 thousand closed individual entrepreneurs. With these data, Danylo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, reacted to the media news about thousands of individual entrepreneurs who closed due to the adoption of the law on tax increases, reports
As a reminder, when reporting on “thousands of closed sole proprietorships,” the media referred to an article by the Opendatabot platform, which stated that “22,500 sole proprietorships have ceased operations since the President signed the law on tax increases, and in the first days the number of closures reached more than 1,000 daily.” This is despite the fact that usually about 700 sole proprietorships close per day. Opendatabot also cited many other data on the dynamics of closure of individual entrepreneurs both recently and this year in general.
In his post, Danylo Hetmantsev also cites other data on individual entrepreneurs. Thus, as of December 01, 2024, the number of individual entrepreneurs is 2,076.7 thousand, of which 272,900 were registered this year. At the same time, the MP claims that the number of new sole proprietorships exceeds the number of terminated ones by almost 92 thousand people.
He also emphasizes that these figures do not indicate either economic growth or a drop in the number of entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, according to Danylo Hetmantsev, the single tax institute has become a tool not for the development of entrepreneurship, but for tax evasion of large and medium-sized businesses.
It is also worth recalling that Opendatabot, reporting on the statistics of closure of individual entrepreneurs, initiated a large-scale nationwide survey of entrepreneurs to understand how the change in tax policy affected their decisions to close their businesses and generally affects the plans of small and medium-sized businesses.
