Russian leader Vladimir Putin has said that Western brands will soon want to return to the Russian market and will even try to apologize to Russia for something. But these apologies, according to him, will not be enough, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The Kremlin leader held a meeting with Russian businessmen, during which he told them how to deal with foreign companies, especially those who were noticed to be sympathetic to Ukraine.

“Alexei said that someone had transferred money to the Ukrainian army, and they should apologize. But no! This is definitely not enough. They are apologizing now,”

– putin said.

He added that from his experience with Western businessmen, it is possible to say that apologizing is not a problem for them. Therefore, Putin proposes a tougher way, which he calls “pragmatic.”

“Is it beneficial for us to have this or that company come? Then we should let them in… If it is not profitable, we need to find a thousand reasons why it should not be here. And out of these thousand reasons, 999 will be exactly in line with WTO requirements. And one by one we will argue in the courts. For at least fifteen years,”

– putin shared his thoughts.

Western investors are waiting at a low start to return to Russia

Amid warming relations between the US and Russia, Western investors are looking more closely at Russia in the hope of a quick investment opportunity. Hedge funds and brokers are actively exploring opportunities to invest in Russian assets. They speculate that the potential improvement in relations between Trump and Putin could attract capital to the Russian economy.

According to the publication, certain investors are showing interest in Russian bonds and the ruble, as they expect the Trump administration to ease the sanctions regime against Moscow. In their view, reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Russian-Ukrainian war would be a step toward such sanctions relief.

Despite the current sanctions, some Western financial institutions are trying to find ways to work with Russian bonds. These securities almost completely lost their value after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, but are now gradually regaining their market position.
