Power Outage on March 17: How the Restrictions Will Apply
17 March 01:40
On Tuesday, March 17, temporary restrictions on electricity consumption will be in effect in Ukraine for industry and businesses. These measures will be implemented during the evening hours of peak load on the power grid. This was announced by the national power grid operator Ukrenergo, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
When will the electricity restrictions be in effect?
According to energy officials, power restriction schedules will be implemented:
- March 17
- from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- in all regions of Ukraine
- for industrial consumers.
However, there are currently no plans for power outages affecting the general public.
Why are electricity restrictions being imposed?
The main reason for these measures is the impact of new Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Damage to power grid facilities has caused a power shortage specifically during the evening hours, when consumption traditionally increases.
Energy workers continue emergency repair work, but the situation remains tense.
What energy experts advise Ukrainians
Experts are urging businesses and citizens to use electricity efficiently and, if possible, to shift the use of high-power electrical appliances to daytime hours.
In particular, it is recommended to use energy-intensive appliances:
- between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., when the load on the grid is lowest.
This will help reduce the load on the power grid during peak hours.
Are restrictions possible for the public?
As of now, no restrictions have been imposed on residential consumers. At the same time, energy officials emphasize that the situation in the power grid may change depending on:
- the level of electricity consumption
- the pace of repair work
- the consequences of new attacks
- weather conditions
Ukrainians are advised to follow announcements from local power grid operators regarding possible changes.
