Power outage on December 17: where and how long will electricity restrictions be in effect
17 December 2025 04:52
On Wednesday, December 17, power outage schedules will be introduced in most regions of Ukraine. The restrictions are being introduced due to the consequences of Russian missile and drone attacks on energy infrastructure. This was reported by the National Energy Company Ukrenergo on its Telegram channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
What restrictions are planned for December 17
According to Ukrenergo, two types of restrictions are planned for Wednesday:
- hourly outage schedules (HOS) – for household consumers;
- power limitation schedules for industrial enterprises and businesses.
The company emphasizes that the measures are forced and are related to the need to balance the power system after damage caused by Russian attacks.
“The reason for the introduction of restrictive measures is the consequences of Russian missile and drone attacks on power facilities,” Ukrenergo said.
In which regions blackouts are possible
The restrictions will apply to most regions of Ukraine, but the specific hours and sequence of outages are determined by regional distribution system operators.
Ukrainians are advised to
- follow the official announcements of regional power distribution companies;
- check updated schedules for their region;
- consume electricity rationally, especially during peak hours.
Why the power supply situation remains difficult
Despite the repair work, Ukraine’s power system continues to operate under a capacity shortage. The main factors are as follows:
- large-scale damage to energy facilities;
- reduction in generation due to shelling;
- seasonal increase in electricity consumption in winter.
Ukrenergo emphasizes that schedules may change during the day, depending on the situation in the power system.
What consumers are advised
Power engineers urge citizens to
- if possible, postpone the use of powerful electrical appliances to nighttime hours;
- avoid turning on energy-intensive appliances at the same time;
- follow only official sources of information to avoid misinformation.
Where to find your outage schedule
“Ukrenergo urges Ukrainians to follow the updates on the official pages of regional power distribution companies in their region. They publish current schedules and changes in outages.
