Power cuts: DTEK told how the schedules will work on 23 May

23 May 2024 12:20

Today, 23 May, power cuts will be in effect throughout the day in Kyiv, Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro and Donetsk regions. This was reported by the press service of DTEK, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“Kyiv, Kyiv, Odesa, Donetsk, and Dnipro regions: according to Ukrenergo’s instructions, the blackout schedules will be in effect all day – from 00:00 to 24:00,”

– the statement reads.

The schedules are available on the websites of DTEK’s distribution system operators.

The company noted that in Kyiv, the allocated limits will be enough to provide an average of 75% of the capital’s electricity needs.

It should be noted that today Ukrenergo has introduced hourly blackout schedules for both industrial and residential consumers throughout Ukraine – from 00:00 to 24:00 . The power supply to critical infrastructure facilities that provide life support to the population is not limited.

The reason for the extension of the restrictions is the forecasted dense cloud cover in most regions of Ukraine, which will force solar power plants to reduce their electricity production. As a result, the deficit in the power system will increase.

Where to find out about blackout schedules

You can get information on how electricity consumption restrictions will be applied in your region in your consumer account, on the official websites of regional power distribution companies, as well as on their social media pages.

The reason for the restrictions

Russian troops have repeatedly attacked energy infrastructure facilities in Ukraine this spring. In particular, at night and in the morning of 8 May, according to the Ministry of Energy, Russian forces attacked electricity generation and transmission facilities in six regions – Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia.

Due to the power shortage, Ukrenergo then imposed restrictions on power supply for industry and business, but also warned that blackouts for household consumers were possible.

The reason for the restrictions is an increase in electricity consumption during the cold snap. The capacity of Ukrainian power plants is insufficient due to the effects of five missile and drone attacks by Russia on the Ukrainian power grid since 22 March.
